Singer Back For ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’

"The director will return for more mutant fun. "
The recent mega-success of May's X-Men: Days of Future Past, which has grossed a franchise-best $745.9 million worldwide, allowed 20th Century Fox to get the ball rolling on another installment in the mutant saga. The next movie, X-Men: Apocalypse, now has an official director on-board. According to EW, Bryan Singer is confirmed to once again helm another chapter in the popular series. He has previously directed three movies in the franchise: X-MenX2: X-Men United, and the recent X-Men: Days of Future Past, which also earned the best critical reception of the series.

It was unclear whether or not this would be the case after Singer was accused in April of sexual abuse by former actor Michael Egan. Egan went on to eventually drop his suit in late August.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set for release on May 27, 2016 and Singer mentioned in the spring that it would follow younger versions of Xavier (James McAvoy), Erik (Michael Fassbender), and Raven (Jennifer Lawrence), and perhaps the additions of Nightcrawler and Gambit (Channing Tatum has been reportedly set as the Cajun hero). Said Singer, “I’m excited because I want to start introducing familiar characters at different ages and also explore the ‘80s.”

For fans of the comic-book movies, Singer and writer Simon Kinberg, with Days of Future Past, were able to write many of the wrongs that director Brett Ratner committed on X-Men: The Last Stand. They created an epic movie that the series needed and along with X-Men: First Classreinvigorated the franchise. Now with the movies back on the right creative path, it will be exciting to see what Singer and his team have in store.
