Spike TV orders series based on Stephen King’s The Mist

Stephen King’s The Mist will be heading to television on Spike TV, according to Variety. The series will feature 10 hour-long episodes and is expected to premiere in 2017. The Mist is a horror novella about a small town in Maine that is suddenly enveloped by an unnatural mist that is home to some mysterious monsters. It was first published in 1980 and was adapted into a feature film in 2007. The Mist is Spike’s first pilot order since the network returned to offering scripted programming. Spike previously had two other scripted series planned, Red Mars and Harvest, but both projects were halted in pre-production. Stephen King is no stranger to having his work translated onto television. Two of his novels, 11.22.63 and Under the Dome, were adapted  by Hulu and CBS, respectively. Both have achieved relative success. His well-known Dark Tower series is also being made into a film starring Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba.
