‘Stranger Things’ Renewed for a Second Season in 2017

"Not a Strange Renewal Decision for this Hit 2016 Netflix Series"
Netflix's surprise hit series Stranger Things will return for a second season with new episodes airing in 2017, the streaming site announced on Tuesday. The new season will have more episodes than the first season (nine instead of eight) with work on the second season already well underway. The entire first season of Stranger Things was released on July 15th, and has quickly gained a significant following. The show focuses on the disappearance of a young Indiana boy and the separate efforts to find him by his friends and a telekinetic girl, his older brother, and the town police. The series combines elements of both supernatural thrillers and horror films, with a heavy dose of homages to 1980's pop culture. The first season was set during the fall of 1983, while the second season will take place during the fall of 1984. 66.0 Stranger Things is written by series creators Matt and Ross Duffer and executive produced by Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen for 21 Laps Entertainment. The Duffer Brothers provided some early details about a potential second season when the show premiered. "We're saying a Season Two would actually be more of a sequel and there would be a new main tension, and we would, in one way or another, resolve that tension at the end," Ross Duffer told Esquire in July. "And so the idea became this sequel. We're leaving a few threads to revisit. It's almost treating it more like a big movie." "There’s still more story here [in the 1980s], there’s still things that are unresolved,” Ross Duffer told Entertainment Weekly. Show fans can expect to see the return of most (if not all) characters of from the first season, with one exception. “We don’t know about Eleven,” Duffer explained. “We leave that up in the air.” Matt Duffer also added “There’s going to be a lot of new and interesting dynamics that we didn’t see in season 1.” Winona Ryder (in her first major television role) stars on the series, with a strong cast of supporting actors. The broadcast date for the second season in 2017 has not yet been announced. Check out the season two announcement teaser trailer below. [embed]https://youtu.be/aXWG_kKDZlY[/embed]
