Stuart Beattie to Direct Kevin Grevioux’s “I, Frankenstein”

Lakeshore Entertainment looks to cash in on the public’s current obsession with the supernatural with a project based on I, Frankenstein. This project has more or less been in the pre-production stage for the past two years, but after several ups and downs, we’ve finally got someone to pen and direct the film.

Stuart Beattie will write and helm this adaptation. He’s perhaps most famous for last year’s Tomorrow, When the War Began. The film, which he adapted and directed, made tons of money in Australia and also picked up some of the country’s major film awards.

This graphic novel, penned by Underworld writer Kevin Grevioux, features a modern-day setting and, according to Fear Net, “brings back many beloved classic monsters including Frankenstein’s Monster, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, the Invisible Man, Dracula, Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde plus many more.”

The Hollywood Reporter
’s Heat Vision blog reports that shooting is set to begin this fall.

I’m on the fence about this one. Though Beattie has worked on some fine scripts, (most significantly for me Australia, though he's probably more known for helping write the first Pirates of the Caribbean film), he also hit a major low note with another (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra). Granted, he was one of several co-writers on both, so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

How do you feel about Stuart Beattie directing I, Frankenstein?
