Superman Prequel Krypton Closing in on Pilot Order at Syfy

"More phallic imagery?"
If, for some reason, you were wondering about the status of the long-developing Krypton series, wonder no more. THR reports that Syfy is closing in on a pilot order deal for the Superman prequel, which was first announced last December. The outlet has also learned that Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow, Sanctuary) has joined the project as executive producer and showrunner, and Colm McCarthy (Peaky Blinders) will direct the show’s pilot episode. As previously reported, David S. Goyer (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) will executive produce the series. (Image: Listverse.)[/caption] Krypton will take place two generations before the titular planet is destroyed. The series will center on Superman’s grandfather during a time when the House of El has been “ostracized and shamed,” and will see him struggle to “redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.” I don’t think anyone is particularly excited by the idea of seeing a prequel to Superman’s story, but I’m interested in seeing Braniac make an appearance/be foreshadowed (because you know they won’t be able to resist). Mister Mxyzptlk, Doomsday, and Mongul could also feature into the series in some capacity – at the very least, we’ll see some of General Zod’s ancestors. Final thought: I actually really liked Kindler's Sanctuary, so maybe there's hope for this. Featured image via Clampett Studio Collections.
