‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Looking for its Harry Osborn

With the part of Mary Jane Watson having been cast for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (to be played by Shailene Woodley), fans of the original Spider-Man trilogy might be wondering, "what about Harry Osborn?" It appears he's next on the list of big casting decisions for the sequel to this summer's superhero success.

Three names have been floating around to play the part of Peter Parker's best friend, says Heat Vision, and they include Brady Corbet (Melancholia, Martha Marcy May Marlene), Dane DeHaan (Chronicle) and Alden Ehrenreich, star of the upcoming YA adaptation Beauitful Creatures. Interestingly, Ehrenreich was a finalist to play Parker/Spider-Man when director Marc Webb was casting the role a couple years ago.

The part initially called for more of a bigger, more athletic actor to play Osborn, but Sony is after someone a little "darker and edgier" at the moment, as the character is reportedly evolving even at present and more names could be brought into the fold. Of the names we do have, DeHaan, who played a bitter and vengeful teen with superpowers in Chronicle, seems the best fit talent-wise, though the Harry of the comics, TV and movies (James Franco) had a bit more charisma and charm.

The actor cast as the son of the Green Goblin will also share a marquee with Jamie Foxx, who was recently cast as the main villain, Electro, as well as returning stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 films near the start of 2013 and hits theaters May 2, 2014.
