thor ragnarokTwo-time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett  will play Thor Ragnarok's antagonist Hela, the Goddess of Death. Joining the Australian actress is Jeff Goldblum  who has been cast as the eccentric Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson (Creed, Selma) will be playing the heroic Valkyrie and Karl Urban will take on the role of Skurge. Marvel has also confirmed that Mark Ruffalo will reprise the role of Bruce Banner/The Incredible Hulk in the movie. The new cast members join series veterans Chris Hemsworth as the titular God of Thunder, Tom Hiddleston as his adopted brother Loki, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Asgard's watchful protector, and Sir Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Allfather and Ruler of Asgard. Jamie Alexander might reprise her role as Lady Sif. Natalie Portman will not be reprising the role of Jane Foster for the third installment. Executive producer of Thor: Ragnarok and president of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige has said that there are "many reasons" why Jane will not be returning. “Many of [those reasons] are in the film so you will see that. There are only a couple of scenes on Earth in this movie; 80 to 90 percent takes place in the cosmos." said Feige. Stellan Skarsgard, who played Dr. Eric Selvig in the previous Thor movies, as well as in both Avengers movies will also not be making an appearance. Thor: Ragnarok is directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) and is scheduled for release on November 3, 2017.
