Top Shows to Stream During a Snowstorm

After living in the Midwest my whole life, I’ve gotten pretty used to getting snowed in for a few days. To reduce the risk of cabin fever, it can help to find a good show to get lost in. Searching streaming sites for something to watch can take longer than the actual show, so I’ve compiled a few shows to stream during a snowstorm, or any other event that leaves you stranded for a while.

Top Chef (Hulu)

top-chefWhenever I know I have a bunch of time to waste, I tend to learn towards competition reality shows. My favorites are America’s Next Top Model, Project Runway and, of course, Top Chef. These types of shows are perfect because they almost always end you leaving wanting more. Top Chef is my favorite because for some reason I am able to completely zone out watching it. Hours can pass without me noticing.

Crazyhead (Netflix)

crazyheadIf you’re only stranded for a few hours, but you still want to feel like you’ve completed something, Crazyhead is the perfect option for you. It’s just six episodes and it’s unlike anything I’ve seen lately. The basic premise is two girls who can see demons and start to fight them. It gets way more complicated than that, but that’s all you need to know. It’s an exciting, feminist, paranormal show that will keep you at the edge of your seat wondering where they could possibly go next.

The Fosters (Netflix)

thefostersIf a cheesy teen drama is what you need to get your mind off the weather outside, The Fosters has you covered. It has the teen drama you crave, but with more diversity and higher stakes. It also has a lot of cliffhangers to keep you going for hours on end. This series is a good choice if you need something a little longer to keep you occupied. With over 60 episodes, you won’t run out until the snow is all melted.

The Americans (Amazon)

americansIf you’re really in the mood for a historical fiction drama with outstanding acting, writing, cinematography, etc., The Americans is waiting for you. It follows a husband and wife, who just happen to be highly trained Russian spies living in D.C. in the 1980s. It’s intense with high stakes. It has those heart-pounding moments like Breaking Bad, but it also has incredibly relatable family moments.

Happy Endings (Hulu)

happy-endings-abc-cast If a half-hour comedy is more your speed, check out Happy Endings on Hulu. This show is one of my all-time favorites, and when I can’t decide what to watch, I always turn it on. It is sort of like Friends, but in present-day Chicago. No show makes me laugh out loud more. If you’re stuck alone or with your friends, this is the perfect show to forget your troubles and start laughing. These are just a few suggestions on the best shows to survive a snowstorm with. If you have any suggestions, leave them in the comments below!
