Turn off the Lights

Trailer Round-Up – July 16, 2016

"Kickboxer: Vengeance, Rules Don't Apply, La La Land"
Kickboxer: Vengeance Directed by John Stockwell, Kickboxer: Vengeance is a reboot of the 1989 martial arts movie featuring original star Jean-Claude Van Damme. When Kurt Sloan (Alain Moussi) witnesses the witnesses the death of his brother Eric at the hands of Muay Thai champion Tong Po (Dave Bautista), he vows revenge. He turns to his brother’s mentor (Jean-Claude Van Damme), so that he can train for a Muay Thai fight to the death with Tong Po. I haven't seen the original Kickboxer, but the trailer for the reboot looks like a promising, action-packed B-list martial arts movie. With a cast made up of experienced mixed martial artist like Gina Carano (Haywire, Deadpool), Georges St-Pierre (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), as well as wrestler-turned actor Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy, SPECTRE) and, of course, original star Jean-Claude Van Damme, this could very well be a pretty decent action movie. Kickboxer: Vengeance is set for a limited theatrical release and on Video on Demand later this year. Rules Don't Apply 20th Century Fox has revealed the first trailer for Warren Beatty’s Rules Don’t Apply, his first film as a director since 1998. The movie follows aspiring young actress Marla Mabrey (Lily Collins) and her ambitious young driver Frank Forbes (Alden Ehrenreich) as they struggle with the absurd eccentricities of wildly unpredictable billionaire Howard Hughes (Warren Beatty). If having Warren Beatty at the helm wasn't enough to peak your interest, this movie has a pretty stellar cast that includes the likes of Matthew Broderick, Martin Sheen, Ed Harris, Alec Baldwin, Haley Bennett and Annette Bening. The trailer is giving off some Hail, Caesar vibes, especially considering the presence of Alden Ehrenreich. I'm a sucker for a 1950-60s period piece, so I will definitely be going to see this. Rules Don’t Apply is set for a theatrical release in the U.S. on November 23. La La Land Lionsgate has released the debut trailer for Academy Award nominee Damien Chazelle‘s (Whiplash) contemporary musical La La Land, which tells the story of Mia (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in modern day Los Angeles. The trailer is set to the first single from the movie's soundtrack, 'City of Stars' and it's a damn good tune for a really great trailer. La La Land looks breathtakingly beautiful and the trailer has a magical feel to it that really does feel like it's sweeping you off your feet - especially when the characters themselves start flying! This and Rogue One are probably the two movies I'm most looking forward to in 2016. La La Land is set for release in theaters on December 16, 2016.
