Trailer Round-Up – June 11th, 2016

"The Shallows, Kicks "
Trailer Round-Up is a brief look at some of the latest movie trailers and teasers. Check them out below. The Shallows The Shallows, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Run All Night, Non-Stop) from a script by Anthony Jaswinski, stars Blake Lively as Nancy, who is surfing alone on a secluded beach when she is attacked by a great white shark. Stranded a mere 200 yards from her survival, Nancy will enter the ultimate battle of wills. This is a great trailer that does an excellent job of setting up the basic premise while maintaining the tension. The old-timey narration works well here. The movie itself does not look like it will break any ground, as shark attack movies come in all shapes and sizes (even tornadoes), but it looks very confident in its minimalist approach and could turn out to be pretty solid. The Shallows is set for a June 24, 2016 release. Kicks Kicks, Justin Tippingā€˜s feature debut, stars Jahking Guillory as Brandon, a 15-year old kid who gets his hands on a pair of the freshest sneakers money can buy. Poor, ignored by girls and picked on by everyone, even his friends, Brandon hopes that the shoes will make him stand out. When a local criminal named Flaco ends up stealing them, Brandon goes on a mission to get them back with his friends in tow. This is another great trailer for what looks to be a very promising debut. In a short span of time, this trailer sets up a lot of complex characterization for Brandon, who is clearly struggling to understand what it means to be a man. With an ensemble cast that includes the likes of Christopher Jordan Wallace, Christopher Meyer, Kofi Siriboe, and Mahershala Ali and what looks to be a lot of visual flare (the astronaut is a particular highlight, although hopefully the movie will use him sparingly), Kicks is certainly one to look out for. Kicks is set for a September 9, 2016 release.
