Trailer Round-Up – May 28th, 2016

"Beauty and The Beast, Free State of Jones, Morgan, The Infiltrator "
Trailer Round-Up is a brief look at some of the latest movie trailers and teasers. Check them out below. Beauty and the Beast Bill Condon is directing Disney's live action reimagining of the classic animated feature Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast, Ian as Cogsworth, Luke Evans as Gaston, Josh Gad as LeFou, Kevin Kline as Maurice, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, the feather duster, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, and Stanley Tucci as a grand piano named Cadenza. This is a teaser trailer that mostly gives us a glimpse at the production design of the castle's interior. We do not get to see Beauty or the Beast, or any other characters, apart from a few off-screen lines of dialogue. It's not much to go on, and it's pretty impressive for what it is. With an ensemble cast and Disney's proven track record of knocking it out of the park with their live-action updates on the classics (most of the time, anyway), this is one to look forward to. Beauty and the Beast is scheduled for release on March 17, 2017. Free State of Jones Written and directed by four-time Oscar nominee Gary Ross, Free State of Jones is a Civil War epic starring Matthew McConaughey as Newt Knight, a man who led a rebellion of farmers and slaves against the Confederacy in Jones County. This trailer is short and moves a little too fast from cut to cut, barely leaving enough time to really take everything in. It gives an overview of the plot, showing all the various moving parts of the movie, as well as highlighting some impressive looking action beats. The production looks incredible and considering the talent involved, this movie is certainly shaping up to be one of the more interesting offerings this year. Free State of Jones is scheduled for release on June 24. Morgan Written by Seth W. Owen and directed by Ridley Scott’s son Luke Scott, Morgan is a sci-fi thriller starring Kate Mara, Anya Taylor-Joy, Toby Jones, Rose Leslie, Boyd Holbrook, Michelle Yeoh, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Paul Giamatti. The trailer plays up the mystery of the story, with the title character Morgan apparently being a child with unusual powers and abilities that is being contained in some facility. The child with mysterious, unexplained powers has been plenty of times (Midnight Special gave us a story like that earlier this year) and based on the trailer, Morgan does not appear to offer much of anything new. What we see here is too generic to feel suspenseful or interesting. The ensemble cast is a good selling point, but it might not be enough to carry this movie. Morgan is scheduled for release on September 2. The Infiltrator The Infiltrator, directed by Brad Furman, is set in the 1980s and based on the true story of US Customs agent Robert Mazur (Bryan Cranston) who went deep undercover as Bob Mussella into the world's largest cartels, following a trail that leads all the way to notorious Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar. The movie also stars Diane Krugger, Benjamin Bratt, John Leguizamo, and Amy Ryan. The first trailer for The Infiltrator (featured in my very first Trailer Round-Up) was very good. The premise and Bryan Cranston in the lead are enough of a reason to check it out, but this second trailer is even better, fleshing out more of the story and the stakes. It's a little too long and gives away more than I would have liked, but other than that, it's a solid trailer for what looks like a great movie. The Infiltrator is scheduled for release on July 13.
