Trailer Tracker: Super 8, Inception, The Adjustment Bureau and I Spit on Your Grave

Welcome back to the newly named “Trailer Tracker” where we at Player Affinity inspect the newest trailers with ruthless efficiency. In this relatively clip-light week we’ll take a look at J.J. Abrams’ secret project with Steven Spielberg, the latest trailer for the much anticipated Inception, the twisted high concept thriller The Adjustment Bureaustarring Matt Damon and the exploitation flick I Spit on Your Grave.

The Adjustment Bureau

Just hitting the web today, Matt Damon’s latest promises intellect amongst its thrills in this story adapted from a Phillip K. Dick (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? aka Blade Runner) story. Originally slated for release this July, it wisely will move to September where it won't compete with a similar film later on down this list, Inception. Directed by first-timer George Nolfi who worked with Damon in the screenwriters role for Oceans Twelve and The Bourne Ultimatum, “Bureau” follows a man who is confronted by a mysterious organization in charge of keeping everyone’s fate on course. But after Damon’s character meets a woman (played by Emily Blunt) whom he is not supposed to, he must choose between his calculated future and true love. With ample star power and a fresh premise this will be a fall release you are destined to see.

Super 8

Like the initial promotional launch of Cloverfield, the enigmatic clip that premiered in front of Iron Man 2 is shrouded in secrecy. All we really know is it seems to involve the infamous Area 51 and a big, mean, steel-bending, something-or-other. There isn’t much else one can have but high hopes looking at Abrams track record and with Spielberg also on board as producer. Super 8 looks to be one of 2011’s most enticing titles with a viral marketing campaign that's sure trump all others before it.

Inception

Finally, after two perplexing but indisputably enticing trailers hit the web for director Christopher Nolan’s follow up to The Dark Knight we get one with some structure and peeks at the actual plot. Inception revolves around a man (Leonardo DiCaprio) who possesses a machine capable of manipulating people’s dreams for the purpose of breaking into their mind and stealing their ideas; the ultimate corporate espionage. It is refreshing to see a big budget backed with actual unique ideas and looking at Nolan’s flawless track record this promises to be one of the summer’s best.

I Spit on Your Grave

Another week, another horror remake. Digging up the cinematic past takes a twisted turn in I Spit on Your Grave exploring the 1978 shocker, also known as Day of the Woman, where after a brutal rape a woman seeks revenge on those who attacked her. If you’re in the mood for grungy, hateful torture porn this flick promises to deliver in spades. On the flip-side if this trailer alone wants to make you take a Brillo pad and bleach to yourself, I think we’ll all understand.
