Trailer Watch: ‘Snowden’

"The first tease for Oliver Stone's latest is revealed....somewhat"
Oliver Stone's upcoming movie Snowden, about whistleblower Edward Snowden, has been shrouded in secrecy for many months, with only a few photos released of Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the controversial political figure. According to Variety, the studio Open Road has released a simple footage-free teaser trailer six months ahead of its Christmas release date. [embed]https://www.youtube.com/embed/8RKto0Yh4so[/embed]

The trailer is truly a tease as we only get facts about Snowden, army recruit at 21; joined CIA at 22; NSA contractor at 25; By age 29, the most wanted man in the world. Followed by an image of an upside-down American flag with the motto, one nation, under surveillance, for liberty and justice for all.

In addition to Gordon-Levitt starring in the title role, the movie co-stars Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson and Timothy Olyphant.

Not much has been revealed of the specific plot. Snowden was charged in 2013 by the U.S. Department of Justice with two counts of violating the Espionage Act and theft of government property, and his passport was revoked a week later by the U.S. Department of State. He was granted temporary asylum by Russia last year.

The movie will be released on December 25th, 2015.
