Vaughn, Farrell Confirmed for Season Two of True Detective

As casting rumors continue to swirl around who will take the other two lead roles on the upcoming second season of HBO’s hit series True Detective, HBO has finally confirmed two pieces of casting that have been suspected from some time: Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell will be taking on two of the four central characters for the new season.

According to the press release from HBO, Vaughn will be portraying Frank Semyon, “a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.” Farrell will be taking on the role of Ray Velcoro, “a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.”

HBO has also released the initial tagline for the second season: “Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.” With Vaughn and Farrell in place, all that remains to be cast of the additional two police officers (one male and one female role), and the series can begin shooting. Per previous reports from HBO, the network had hoped that the series would begin its initial filming this month, but with the delays in casting, it is not expected to hit that milestone. Regardless, the season is expected to begin airing in the summer of 2015.
