Eddie Murphy is teaming up with Shawn Ryan, creator of The Shield, to create a revived television adaptation of the Beverly Hills Cop trilogy. Vulture have reported that Ryan and Murphy are working with Sony Pictures Television, and are currently in the process of pitching their ideas to prospective networks. Murphy is named as executive producer on the project, which is rumoured to focus on the son of Axel Foley, the protagonist of the original movies.

The original trilogy has made $700 million worldwide, and when the second movie grossed $150m in 1987 the idea of a TV show was touted. Murphy then declined, opting instead for a second film sequel. The movies continued to be a success and the theme tune, Axel F, became a worldwide hit.
