News Tidbits: Hulu Plus on Apple TV, M. Night Shyamalan and More

Hulu Plus has quietly rolled out to Apple TV, bringing to the receiver a variety of TV shows including current and old series from ABC, NBC, FOX, The CW and Univision. Apple has been battling between the company's perennial tendency to limit consumers' choices and the wish to keep up with the competition (Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PS3). [Deadline Hollywood]

Syfy has given a pilot order to High Moon, an adaptation of John Christopher’s 1969 young adult sci-fi novel, "The Lotus Caves." The story takes place in a future where the countries of Earth have established colonies to mine the Moon’s resources. “This is a fresh and compelling vision of an exotic new world driven by character, intrigue and greed,” said Syfy President of Original Content Mark Stern. 1969 doesn't exactly conjure up epithets like fresh and new, but who knows what will come out of the production company? Fox has handed out a put-pilot commitment to Proof, a project shepherded by M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense) and Marti Noxon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Proof, which is Shyamalan’s first foray into scripted television, follows the son of a billionaire tech genius who, after the unexpected passing of his parents, offers up a big financial reward to anyone who can find proof of life after death. That's so right up Shyamalan's alley, he could even reuse scenes (or footage) from his movies. [TVLine]

Shiri Appleby (Life Unexpected, Roswell) has been cast for an arc on the second season of HBO’s comedy Girls. She will play Natalie, a new love interest for Hannah’s (Lena Dunham) lover Adam Driver (Adam Sackler). I can hear a collective sigh from those who thought the breakup meant goodbye (and good riddance). [Deadline Hollywood]

Mark Valley (Human Target) is in final negotiations to join ABC medical drama Body of Proof as a new regular. Valley will play Tommy Sullivan, a "sexy former NYPD detective who has transferred to Philadelphia to try to rekindle his relationship with Megan Hunt (Delany)." An unlikely show for The CW, Body of Proof is starting to have too many attactive people. [TVLine]
