Viggo Mortensen “Of Interest” for General Zod

Viggo Mortensen currently tops the list of contenders to play General Zod for Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot. Character actor Terrence Stamp portrayed the villain in the 1980 film Superman II.

Mortensen is still negotiating for his role in Snow White and the Huntsman alongside Kristen Stewart, but if that falls through, he we certainly be free take on the role of this iconic Superman villain.

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog and its sources, Mortensen is simply “a person of interest” for this role and hasn’t yet been contacted. General Zod isn’t the only role in the film that’s still up in the air; the roles of Jonathan Kent and the three leading females have also yet to be cast.

Since breaking through to mainstream film with the Lord of the Rings films, Mortensen, unlike many of his co-stars, built a reputable career. However, he hasn’t had a big hit in awhile. With Zack Snyder at the helm and the ever-popular property of Superman, this could be his most popular role since Aragorn if he signs on.
