Viggo Mortensen Won’t Be Playing General Zod in “Superman” Reboot

Viggo Mortensen hit the rumor mill quite some time ago as a candidate to play General Zod in the upcoming Superman reboot. During the intense press junket for his latest film, Sucker Punch, Zack Snyder was asked about Mortensen, and here’s what he told Latino Review when questioned about Mortensen’s involvement:

“Yeah Viggo is not going to be in the movie let’s say that right now. I can clear that up.”

Additionally, we still have no clue whether or not Lex Luthor will show up in the film. It seemed like we knew this about Mortensen already, but now it’s completely official and on the record. Mortensen is also up to play the huntsman in Snow White and the Huntsman opposite Kristen Stewart, and scheduling conflicts would arise if he had taken on both roles.

It’s unfortunate that he won’t be in this reboot, though. It would have been lots of fun. Still, Mortensen fans can get their fix later this year when he stars in David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method alongside Michael Fassbender and Keira Knightley.

How do you feel about Viggo Mortensen not playing General Zod?
