Christopher Nolan’s trilogy of Batman flicks for Warner Bros. are generally regarded as the best of modern cinema’s superhero offerings. However, when it comes to the whole scheme of things, WB and DC Comics are far behind Marvel and the continuity kept within the big buildup to next year’s The Avengers.
But that won’t stop heroes from the DC Comics universe from returning to the silver screen in the near future. Despite the overwhelming disappointment of Green Lantern, led by Ryan Reynolds as the titular Justice League member, WB does in fact want Hal Jordan’s story to continue, albeit with a different director. There’s also a desire for an “edgier and darker” script.
Jeff Robinov, film group president at WB, relays the following to Hero Complex:
“We had a decent opening so we learned there is an audience. To go forward we need to make it a little edgier and darker with more emphasis on action…. And we have to find a way to balance the time the movie spends in space versus on Earth.”
Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim, who authored the “Lantern” script alongside Michael Goldberg, have already given an outline for the sequel to WB, but insiders suggest that the outline will either be heavily changed or done away with completely.
Many of you GL fans out there seem to feel the story of the character gets better past its origins based on our initial reports of a sequel. Does this sound like it's going in a redemptive direction?
