‘Watchmen’ Screenwriter Acquired for ‘Crow’ Remake

Relativity Media, the studio whose recent releases include Bridesmaids and Cowboys & Aliens, have announced that Alex Tse (Watchmen) will be penning the script for their "reimagining" of the 1994 cult classic The Crow.

Based on the comics and characters of James O'Barr, The Crow follows Eric Draven, opening on both his and his fiance Shelly's murder on October 30th - which just happened to be the night before their wedding day. Rising from the dead one year later, Eric discovers he is unable to be suffer physical pain and, with the guidance of a crow, begins to hunt down the men responsible for his and Shelly's death. Bloody deaths and violence most certainly follow.

The original film holds a sad reputation: lead Brandon Lee died of an accidental gunshot wound during filming. The sequels and TV shows that followed, and the leading men that starred in them, attempted to recapture the success of the first project and Lee's portrayal, but none were able to match it. Relativity Media is looking to breath new life into the series with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) set to direct and Bradley Cooper (The Hangover Part 2) onboard to star. Whether Tse's script skills can be of help remains to be seen.
