For those who think the act of exploding requires a more graceful, feminine touch, developer Twisted Pixel just announced Ms. Splosion Man, follow-up to their Live Arcade Hit ‘Splosion Man. Joystiq has a lengthy interview with Twisted Pixel COO Josh Bear asking him about the game.
Viral marketing is the future of advertising so it’s only fitting that Deus Ex: Human Revolution, a game set in a technologically advanced society, gets its own viral Web site. The Web site, Sarif Industries, is named after a company from the game that specializes in creating futuristic mechanical replacements for human limbs.
The beat ‘em up genre has been mostly lacking as of late. This is no surprise as it seems the gameplay nearly always boils down to “do tons of light attacks, toss in a few heavy attacks, you win.” Throughout the years, developers have tried to add interesting variety to the genre (combos, leveling up, open worlds, etc.) and occasionally, it all falls into place and is fairly fun. Is Splatterhouse one of those rare occurrences?
Microsoft has officially rolled out its new Xbox Live Rewards service, after a year of extensive beta testing. The new system is designed to, of course, reward you for activity on Xbox Live. Now before you get all excited and think that your gamerscore is going to net you some Microsoft Points, you never receive anything for free and must usually make a purchase before receiving any Microsoft Points. However, this could be a real deal for those of you out there who would make these types of purchases anyway.
Reach was Bungie’s swan song for the Halo franchise, so what do its new stewards at 343 Industries have planned? If reports in a recent issue of U.K. magazine GamesMaster (via CVG) are to be believed, their first project will be a remake of the first game in the series, Halo: Combat Evolved.
NBA Jam, in its current Xbox 360 incarnation, was never meant to see the light of day. While expected to be released as a full retail game exclusively on the Wii console, the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions were supposed to come in the form of downloadable “freebies” with EA’s NBA Elite 11. Turns out that when the demo of NBA Elite 11 hit PSN and XBL, it was universally panned, and left EA scrambling with what to do. EA, in a bold move, scrapped the buggy mess that was Elite and opted to release NBA Jam as a full retail game on all major consoles, instead of the stripped down “freebie” that was supposed to be included in Elite.
Video games over the years have showed us many things. Brilliant worlds that don’t exist, scenarios that never happened, and heroes we wish were real. However we are not here to honor those today (maybe another time). Today we are here to honor a great invention made by a video game character. This will be a new feature that will honor great instruments for the good of science…in video games.
