Nintendo of Europe today showed off a trailer showing off the amiibo functionality of Yoshi’s Wooly World as they celebrate being the first region to release the game.
Yoshi will be able to reskin itself based on over 40 different characters. From the looks of it, he’s compatible with every non-Pokémon amiibo, from Mario characters to Kirby to Fire Emblem to Zelda to even third party characters like Sonic, Mega Man and Pac-Man. Using a Smash or Mario themed Yoshi amiibo turns Yoshi into a regular, solid Yoshi.
We learned during previous Nintendo Directs that the game had amiibo compatibility when they showed off the double-Yoshi mode when you used a wool Yoshi figure.
They also showed off the details of the game itself. It looks like Kamek returns as the main antagonist when he turns the Yoshis of Craft Island into balls of yarn. You can equip badges to add abilities to Yoshi, and they’re needed to revisit stages when you try to 100% it. The game also supports the Wii U Pro Controller, Wii Classic Controller and Wii Remote, with the latter option adding tilt controls.
Yoshi’s Wooly World is slated for a June 26th release in Europe, though the game isn’t dated anywhere else.
