6 Star Wars Anthology Movies We’d Like to See

"Star Wars Stories for All"
Star Wars AnthologyThe release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the Star Wars universe on the big screen - anthology movies. With the exception of a few television movies released at the time of the original trilogy (including everyone's favorite Holiday Special) and the animated 2008 feature Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the Star Wars movies have mainly consisted of the two core saga trilogies. The anthology movies, by contrast, will be standalone spin-offs that explore stories and characters outside of the main saga, but still within the Star Wars universe. As of right now, we know of three such movies - Rogue One, the untitled Han Solo movie and another untitled movie that is rumored to focus on Boba Fett in some capacity. In honor of Rogue One's release, here's Entertainment Fuse's wishlist for future Star Wars anthology movies. A few notes on the selection - many characters like Lando Calrissian, Darth Vader, Boba Fett etc, while fan favorites, are either already confirmed to be in anthology movies, or are heavily rumored to be, so don't expect them to show up on the list. Similarly, there will be no sequel trilogy-era suggestions, since that story is still very much ongoing. All suggestions are listed in no particular order. Knights of the Old RepublicStar Wars Knights of the Old Republic Widely considered to be one of the best Star Wars video games around, Knights of the Old Republic was set a few thousand years before the events of the original trilogy, which gave it unprecedented levels of freedom to tell brand new stories within the larger Star Wars universe. The central conflicts of the saga - Jedi vs. Sith, Light vs. Dark, Republic vs. Empire - were still very much present, but KOTOR made ample use of the different time period to weave a compelling epic, largely unburdened by continuity. All of the planned or rumored spin-offs seem to be set well within the bounds of the main series continuity, but why not an anthology movie set in the days of the Old Republic, inspired by the fan-favorite game? It would have to be a story on a smaller scale, perhaps, but even so, it would be terrific news for many fans and a great opportunity for those unfamiliar with the games to explore an exciting new era of Star Wars. The Sith Star Wars Sith Warrior Characterized by their lust for power, their love of the Dark Side of the Force and their superior fashion sense, the Sith are menacing, ruthless and perfectly suited to be the central antagonists of the Star Wars franchise. Yet even though they have a strong presence throughout the movies, little is known about them or their history. Sure, dig through the expanded universe and you'll find tons of information, but the main saga has offered us little beyond their core beliefs or brief glimpses into their mythology. The Sith are an ancient order with a rich history and there's a lot of compelling stories that can be brought to the big screen in the form of an anthology movie - the tragedy of Darth Plagueis, the tale of how Darth Bane created the infamous Rule of Two or perhaps a completely original story with a new Sith protagonist. Whether they're made out to be tough-to-root for anti-heroes or villains that we love to hate, the Sith have a lot that they can offer and while the main saga movies focus on the Jedi, an anthology movie could possibly go in a different, darker direction. Obi-Wan Kenobi [caption id="attachment_91498" align="alignnone" width="600"]Cover art for the novel Kenobi by John Jackson Miller Cover art for the novel Kenobi by John Jackson Miller[/caption] Out of all the possibilities for an anthology movie, an Obi-Wan Kenobi centered one seems both the most likely and the one most fans would love to see. Ewan McGregor, who played Obi-Wan in the prequels is more than willing to reprise the role in anthology movie that will presumably be set in between Episodes III and IV, exploring Kenobi's time as an exile on Tatooine. It's a setup that's perfect for a straightforward Western story, but one that's set in the Star Wars universe with one of the saga's most beloved and iconic characters. It's such a popular idea that people have been asking for it way before Star Wars anthology movies were even a possibility. Lost Stars [caption id="attachment_91513" align="alignnone" width="600"]Cover art for the novel Lost Stars by Claudia Gray Cover art for Lost Stars novel by Claudia Gray[/caption] Star Wars: Lost Stars is a young adult novel written by Claudia Gray in the lead-up to the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It tells the story of a tragic romance caught in the middle of the ongoing civil war between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire - two close friends and would-be lovers find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict in a tale that runs parallel to the events of all three movies from the original trilogy. Lost Stars is on this list both because of its story and because the idea of a narrative that runs parallel to the big movies. It's a refreshing alternative to straightforward prequels that opens up some interesting ways to play around with continuity and could shed a light on previously unexplored corners of the Star Wars universe. Republic Commando Star Wars Republic Commando Star Wars: Republic Commando is another popular video game from the franchise - unlike KOTOR, however, it never had any sequels. The story of the Republic Commandos, elite clone troopers that operate in small, tightly-knit groups that are practically family, was continued in a series of novels written by Karen Traviss. A Republic Commando anthology movie could explore war in a way no other Star Wars movie has - at the very least, focusing on characters that are not even Force-users would be a shift in tone and direction that also seems suitable for a spin-off. There's also potential for some interesting crossovers - the later novels explored what happens to the Republic Commandos when the Republic is no more. There have been a lot of Clone Wars-era stories, but many are geared towards younger audiences - a Republic Commando anthology movie could take a more grounded and serious approach to that devastating galactic conflict. Droids [caption id="attachment_91497" align="alignnone" width="600"]Ralph McQuarrie Concept Art Painting of R2D2 and C3PO Ralph McQuarrie Concept Art Painting of R2D2 and C3PO[/caption] Droids, like the Jedi and the Sith, are a cornerstone of the Star Wars franchise - in fact, R2D2 and C3PO are among the select few characters that have appeared in every single Star Wars episode to date. A droid's role within the franchise varies - they can be plot devices, adorable sidekicks, comic relief, inept antagonists, dangerous antagonists etc. One thing has been consistent though - they're always supporting or minor characters. Why not flip the script and make an anthology movie with droid protagonists? You could even take the Lost Stars approach, and have a droid narrative that runs parallel to the events of other movies. A droid anthology movie could serve as a spotlight for fan-favorite droids such as HK-47, or could introduce brand new characters. There are a lot of possibilities here and speaking from a purely marketing perspective, I think it's safe to say - the toys will practically sell themselves.
