7 Actress Being Considered for True Detective Season 2

Remember just over a month ago, when news broke that Elizabeth Moss and Rachel McAdams were the two name actresses up for the plum female lead of HBO's True Detective season two? Well, it turns out that that might not have been completely accurate. mc-moss The Wrapis now reporting that there are an additional seven actresses being auditioned for the role by series writer/creator Nic Pizzolatto. The list reads like a who's who of supporting film and television actresses: Brit Marling (The East), Oona Chaplin (Game of Thrones), Jaimie Alexander (Thor), Kelly Reilly (Flight), Malin Akerman, Rosario Dawson, and Jessica Biel. The ladies on the list are pretty different, in terms of both body of work and look, but The Wrap is saying this is merely evidence that the role of Ani Bezzerides (“a tough, no-nonsense Monterey sheriff whose troubled upbringing has driven her to gambling and alcohol”) is truly still up for grabs. Reports indicate that Moss and McAdams are still in the running for the role as well. Season two of True Detective was expected to begin filming this month with a summer 2015 premiere, but the lack of definitive casting news has those dates in doubt. The season's male leads (with Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch, and Vince Vaughn rumored as the actors) have also not been announced.
