A Glimpse of James Franco as ‘Oz: The Great and Powerful’

With an all-star cast and source material that’s captured the hearts of millions, Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great and Powerful might be 2013’s first big hit. The film finished shooting some time ago, and we’ve finally got an official look at James Franco as the titular wizard.

“Oz” serves as a prequel to the L. Frank Baum novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz – the story that inspired the 1939 musical classic, The Wizard of Oz  – and imagines the wizard as a Kansas-based circus magician named Oscar Diggs who finds himself whisked away to the magical Land of Oz. Golden Globe nominee Mila Kunis, Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz, and Academy Award nominee Michelle Williams star as three witches of Oz, while Zach Braff, Joey King, and Academy Award nominee Abigail Breslin also lend their talents to the film.

Disney currently aims for “Oz” to hit theaters on March 8, 2013.
