Once we've gotten the smaller Ashton Kutcher version of Steve Jobs out of our system, we'll get the bigger one, and from the looks of it, a much bigger one. Aaron Sorkin will be adapting the screenplay for Steve Jobs, based on the biography of the same name by Walter Isaacson. Sony Pictures let loose a press release yesterday confirming the news:
"CULVER CITY, Calif., May 15, 2012 – Academy Award® winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin will adapt Steve Jobs, a motion picture based on the best-selling biography of the legendary Apple co-founder by award-winning journalist Walter Isaacson, it was announced today by Amy Pascal, Co-Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Doug Belgrad, President of Columbia Pictures. The project is being produced by Mark Gordon, Scott Rudin and Guymon Casady."
Let's make sure we're clear: the man can adapt the hell out of books. The release goes on to mention Sorkin's exceptional resume in TV (The West Wing, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip), film (The Social Network, Moneyball) and stage (A Few Good Men). He won his first Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2010 for writing "Network."
Recently, Sorkin acquired the film rights to The Politician, detailing the downfall of John Edwards, which he plans to make his directorial debut. He is also set to debut The Newsroom for HBO, premiering June 24 and starring Jeff Daniels.
