This winter, a new comic-based television series will be joining the already swelling ranks. ABC will launch Marvel’s Agent Carter, a spin-off from the Captain America film series, which will temporarily take over the Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. time slot on the network’s Tuesday night schedule.
The series, which will star Hayley Atwell reprising her performance as the titular Agent Carter, will explore Carter’s adventures outside of her interactions with Captain America. The series will also star James D’Arcy, Chad Michael Murray, Enver Gjokaj and Sean Whigham. Dominic Cooper will reprise his role as Howard Stark (father to Iron Man Tony Stark) on the television series as well.
Marvel’s Agent Carter will premiere on January 6, 2015 for a limited run. The series will end its season on March 3, 2015, after which it will be replaced in the schedule by Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Unlike other network shows, Carter will only air a total of 8 episodes during its initial run. No word from ABC on whether the series is meant to be a completely close ended series and end after all eight have aired, or if the goal of the series is to create an ongoing show that can continue running during S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s hiatuses.
