Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – Closure Review

This week’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. proved that getting closure isn’t always as simple as it sounds, and served as the perfect lead into the mid-season finale. The episode started calm enough with Rosalind and Coulson finally having a romantic dinner, but their moment of happiness literally lasted a few minutes. One second they are laughing and sharing a ketchup packet and the next, Rosalind has a bullet in her neck. It looks like this ship has officially sunk. Despite being an emotional scene, it was beautifully shot. Instead of seeing Rosalind get shot,we are first shown the bullet hole in the glass, highlighting that it took Coulson a few seconds to even realize what had happened. I gotta say, I’m really sad to see Rosalind go so soon. I just want as many badass characters as possible, but it looks like Ward killing Rosalind was just the thing to light a spark and ignite Coulson's revenge plan. MARVEL'S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. - "Closure" - Ward's campaign for revenge brings the S.H.I.E.L.D. team to their knees, and Coulson proves he will do anything to settle the score, on "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," TUESDAY, DECEMBER 1 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/Eric McCandless) CONSTANCE ZIMMER, CLARK GREGG It was almost scary how dramatically Coulson changed after that moment. He was filled with adrenaline, kicked Ward’s minions to the curb and immediately started plotting a way to kill Ward. He decided to pick Hunter and Bobbi as his accomplices to finally take out Ward. He even put Mack in charge as director of S.H.E.I.L.D. as he left. I didn’t think we could ever see Coulson give up his position as director. Coulson’s plan was to use Ward’s brother Thomas to draw him out, but I’m kind of surprised that even worked. Ward so far has shown no weakness, but somehow he still cares about his brother who he shoved down a well and hasn’t seen for 15 years. That seemed kind of unbelievable. He killed his parents and other brother, so what’s more family member to him at this point? But it worked and they were able to track Ward’s location. In the meantime, Ward and Malick succeeded in kidnapping Fitz and Simmons to help them with their whole portal situation. I’m a little confused as to how that happened. You’d think after Rosalind got shot, they would have the base on lockdown, but instead they went wandering around with Rosalind’s former co workers. It seemed like everyone’s emotions got in the way of making good decisions this episode. As soon as Ward had Fitz and Simmons he was smart enough to know to separate them to get what he wanted and it worked. Fitz volunteered to go through the portal to save Simmons from getting tortured. That was very gentlemanly of him, but it seemed like Simmons would have been the smarter option to go. She actually knows what’s out there and could maybe find Will for help once she was there. Plus she didn’t know exactly what Fitz did on the outside, what if she can’t get him back? These two really are cursed. (ABC/Greg Gayne) CHLOE BENNET, CLARK GREGG Back at base with Mack as the stand-in director, he decided to rally everyone left and go after Fitz and Simmons- even though they are outgunned, out-manned and out-planned. I don’t know why Daisy keeps getting picked last for stuff. You’d think she would be the most useful in these types of situations and didn’t they need her to bring back Simmons? She seemed very under utilized this episode. In the end, Fitz and Ward along with some other Hydra agents went through the portal and right before it closed, Coulson dove into it as well. Something tells me that’s not going to end well. It’s strange to me that Hydra’s whole plan in this is to bring back that evil space demon thing, but how are they going to be able to control it and how do they even know it can exist on earth. What if it can only survive on that planet? I mean the problems with this mission are endless. I just hope that Fitz comes back. Final Thoughts: -Overall this episode was an excellent lead up to the mid-season finale. Even though I’m sad to see Rosalind go, her death served a purpose. -I also like how they showed a lot of parallels between Ward and Coulson. They are both driven by emotion, get angry and throw phones/tantrums when they lose the upper hand. -I also think they are personally trying to hurt me by constantly separating Fitz and Simmons. Can they please just have one happy episode? - I’m also really worried about Coulson and Fitz on that planet. Ward and his buddies had full on military gear and all Fitz got was some goggles. That’s just rude. Hopefully him and Coulson can find a way back while trapping Ward there. I can’t wait to see what happens next week, which will be the last episode until spring 2016.
