Amazon Orders Two New Dramas to Series
A few weeks ago, I took on the Herculean task of checking out
the latest batch of Amazon Prime pilots. My conclusion? The Man in the High Castle
was, by far, the most interesting and promising of the six pilots. Well, apparently Amazon has excellent taste, as the streaming site just announced it will be picking up the show for a series order.
Based on the Philip K. Dick novel by the same name, The Man in the High Castle
, imagines a world where the Axis powers were victorious in World War II. It's a particularly interesting premise, and easily the most ambitious and well-executed of the adult pilots offered in this latest round of Amazon pilot roulette. There is no word yet on when audiences can expect additional episodes (the Amazon Prime production schedule is a complex animal that makes very little sense), but the pilot remains on the site for those who haven't given it a look yet.
Also joining The Man in the High Castle
in a series order is Mad Dogs
. An adaptation of a British series, this one left me a bit cold, but the star power within its cast (Michael Imperioli, Billy Zane, Steve Zahn, and Romany Malco) offer some hope that the series will flourish. Again, no word on when to expect the full first series of Mad Dogs
to be released, but the pilot remains online to check out.
