Batman: Arkham Origins Now Has Multiplayer

Initially announced by development studio Splash Damage, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment along with DC Entertainment have confirmed today that Batman: Arkham Origins will feature an online competitive mode. This multiplayer feature will be available on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC platforms.

Extrapolating on Predator challenges from past Arkham games, Splash Damage has developed a similar multiplayer experience that will set three opposing teams against one another.

The basic gameplay aspect of this multiplayer mode pits three players against another three players; two opposing teams of gang henchmen, elite members of Bane’s and The Joker’s gangs. Yet in an asymmetrical twist, the dynamic duo of Batman and Robin will face off against these two factions all together.

However, the gang factions won’t be able to hunker down awaiting for the masked knight and his acrobatic side-kick to strike. Instead the rival gangs must engage each other over various control points that allow for respawns all the while playing prey to the Caped Crusader and the Boy Wonder.

Aside from capturing control points, the gang members will be further enticed to move around the battle space. Once per match the game will open the door for a super criminal to emerge. The rival gang member to enter that door first will emerge either as Bane or The Joker, depending on their respective gang affiliation,  presenting a greater threat to all opposing players.

Unfortunately for the Wii U crowd, Warner Bros. has decided not to extend the development of this multiplayer feature to the latest Nintendo console.

As reported by Eurogamer, a spokesperson for Warner Bros. stated that the team focused on platforms with the largest multiplayer audience; therefore excluding the Wii U.

Beta invites for the new multiplayer mode have also been sent out today. Aran Suddi from TheSixthAxis reported that a selection of registered users with a Warner Bros. Member ID have received invites to the beta period which will be held from August 7th to the August 14th.

According to Playstation Lifestyle, the beta platforms for North American will be the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3; while European participants will be limited to the Playstation 3.

Batman: Arkham Origins will release worldwide across the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii U, and Windows PC platforms on October 25th.
