Battlestar Galactica MMO Enters Open Beta Soon

With the recent and horribly unjust cancelation of Caprica, Battlestar Galactica fans have been left without a fix of their favorite sci-fi franchise.  Fortunately, a new MMO based on the series has been in development for a while, and it will hit open beta on February 8th.  Battlestar Galactica: Online will be a 3-D space shooter which lets players choose to fight as a Cylon, or human in large-scale space battles.

It will include PVE and PVP combat, along with the standard genre tropes like leveling up skill trees, upgrading ships, and forming clans.  It will be a free-to-play game, which means that players will be encouraged to use real-world money to buy in-game items and upgrades through micro-transactions.  No exact details are available on this, or whether or not there will be premium content available only to players who purchase it.

It runs on the Unity engine which allows gamers to play 3D games right on their web browser.  The developer, Bigpoint are the folks behind other online games like Dark Orbit, War of the Titans and XBlaster, which run on similar technology.  Players interested in seeing what BSG: Online might be like can check out Bigpoint's other games on their website but you'll have to wait until February 8th before you can hop in your viper to frakk some toasters.  In the meantime you can register for the BSG beta now at its sign-up page.
