Brad Bird talks about “Incredibles 2”

"The director of "Tomorrowland" sat down to discuss "Incredibles 2" and his involvement in the Star Wars Franchise"
The Incredibles 2 The Incredibles is one of the most beloved Pixar films of all time. Since its release in 2004, fans have been clamoring for a sequel. After a decade of silence, Pixar announced last spring that The Incredibles 2 was in the works for release at an indeterminate point. Having kept himself busy with live action directing (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, and the upcoming Tomorrowland), Brad Bird sat down for an interview with Collider, where the subject of The Incredibles 2 was broached. When asked about the progress of a script or development, Bird had this to say:
“Oh yeah I have pages, a bunch of pages. I had a lot of ideas for the original Incredibles that I didn’t get a chance to use, that I like. I have ideas that I wanted to pursue a little bit and there wasn’t enough time in Incredibles. There are new ideas I have, and I think there are enough of those together to make an interesting movie. I’m just focusing on getting Tomorrowland out into the world and playing with the Incredibles sandbox again.”
While it seems a bit far off for such a busy director, Bird assured his interviewer that The Incredibles 2 will be his next feature. Bird went on to discuss his involvement with the Star Wars Franchise, and the possibility of stepping in for the recently-departed Josh Trank in one of the Star Wars Anthology films.
“Well Kathy [Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm] and I have discussed the possibility of—I mean she’s basically saying this is a very large sandbox and other people can play in it. I was particularly attracted to the idea of picking up and—J.J. got very excited about the notion of shaping the next trilogy, and that idea was interesting to me too. But I kind of—I’m writing a sequel to The Incredibles and I can’t think too much farther beyond that. I have other things I want to do as well.”
As someone whose talent transcends visual medium, Brad Bird's announcement for The Incredibles 2 is big news for Pixar fans. After ten years of agonizing thought, hopefully the film will measure up to the ever-increasing expectations.
