“Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” directors to build with Legos

Warner Bros. plan to blend live-action and CGI for a movie based on the world's greatest toy, LEGO, has found a director: two in fact. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, receivers of much praise for last year's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, have been hired for the job, according to Heat Vision.

The duo had to win both the approval of Warner Bros. and Lego execs as the worldwide brand is highly coveted and made successful pitches to both powers that be. Heat Vision speculates that Lord and Miller's ability to make a gigantic living world from a 32-page children's book in "Cloudy" offered the proof that the Lego world, where the film is expected to take place, would be in good hands.

The plot of the film is being kept under wraps, but live action and CGI will be involved and a trip to the Lego world is guaranteed. Presumably, some kids and one or two goofy adult figures find themselves in the Lego world, which is a terribly cliche plot, but count on Lord and Miller to make it work. "Cloudy" was a delightful film with a brilliant all-ages sense of humor and multi-dimensional characters. If you haven't seen it, it's worth it (and also available on Netflix instant play at the moment).

Lord and Miller's current project is a film version of the television series 21 Jump Street, which is in early production stages, so the Lego movie is at least two years away though no official timetable has been set.
