Downey Jr., Pizzolatto Team Up on New HBO Project

Could Sherlock Holmes be teaming up with a True Detective? No, this isn’t the premise for a time-travelling fanfic story, but rather the genesis for an exciting creative collaboration. Insiders are buzzing about a new HBO series that would star Robert Downey Jr. and be written by True Detective co-creator Nic Pizzolatto. The Downey-Pizzolatto project has apparently been in development at HBO since May. For the moment, however, there has been no official word from HBO or the creators themselves as to what the series will be about. nic-pizzolatto-robert-downey-jr-hbo-series Some have speculated that the project may be based on Downey’s long gestating Perry Mason reboot. Downey has apparently been trying to get a feature film based on the 1950s legal drama for years, but the project has been stuck in development hell at Warner Bros. Word is that Downey will develop the concept as a TV series to be produced by himself, his wife Susan Downey, Pizzolatto, and Joe Horacek. If Downey does indeed star in a Perry Mason series for HBO, it would mark an auspicious return to the small screen for the Hollywood film star. Downey last appeared on television in the early 2000’s during an acclaimed run on Ally McBeal.
