Duncan Jones to Helm James Bond Creator’s Biopic

Despite only making two movies, Duncan Jones has proven himself as one of most interesting and talented sci-fi filmmakers around. At the Cannes Film Festival this weekend Jones has chosen to go in a slightly different direction next and has signed up to direct a biopic about James Bond creator Ian Fleming.

Empire Magazine
reports that the film will be based on Andrew Lycett’s biography The Man Behind James Bond and it has the support of the Fleming estate. Jones’ Liberty Films producing partner Stuart Fenegan along side K5 Films’ Oliver Simon and Daniel Baur are set to produce, as well as Kevin Frakes of PalmStar Media Capital.

The biopic is set to focus on Fleming’s time as an MI6 officer during the Second World War, his creation of the world famous spy and how his past influenced James Bond. Jones is quoted saying:

“Fleming lived through one of the most perilous periods in world history, in a position that allowed him a unique vantage point of all the players, all the stakes. He witnessed true heroism first-hand. And he saw the evil men could do. Then, when the war ended, he went off to write fiction. The essential question for me is: where did Ian Fleming end and Bond begin?”

Fenegan also added:

“The opportunity to make a period action film about the life of Fleming and origins of Bond – a hero we all grew up idolising – is too great for Duncan and me to resist.”

Jones’ first two movies were the compelling sci-fi dramas Moon and Source Code. He has been sought after for a number of high-profiie projects from The Wolverine to The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire.
