USA Today has revealed our first look at Voltron: Legendary Defender, the Voltron: Defender of the Universe reboot series. The show will consist of 13 22-minute episodes and will premiere on Netflix later this year. Check out Voltron below! However, it’s not all going to be dark and grim. According to Dos Santos, they thought about making Voltron “really military and really serious” after Dreamworks gave the team freedom to do what they wanted with the franchise, but decided against this in favor of something with "an epic Game of Thrones feel...with some humor,” as USA Today said. Speaking on another change that was made for Voltron: Legendary Defender, Montgomery said that Princess Allura is going to be more realistic character. “She doesn’t have to be the (greatest) fighter right off the bat. She’s still a princess from a peaceful kingdom. But she’s certainly not fainting at every little thing that overwhelms her.” USA Today also provided a brief overview of the new series: Legendary Defender centers on five Earth teenagers — Keith, Lance, Hunk, Pidge and Shiro — who are thrown into the middle of an intergalactic battle and become the last line of defense for Arus and other planets against an evil alien force led by King Zarkon.” As someone unfamiliar with the Voltron franchise, but who loves the work of Montgomery (Wonder Woman) and Dos Santos (Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam), I honestly can't wait for this series.
