Turn off the Lights

First Look: Whispers #1

Another supernatural mini-series from Image Comics will be hitting the stands in January, 2012. It will be written by Joshua Luna (Girls), an acclaimed creator who usually collaborates on projects with his brother Jonathan Luna, but Joshua will be working alone as both the artist and writer of Whispers.

Sam Webber 's life is starting to spiral out of control thanks to his Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. His life takes another, even wilder spiral, when he finds out he can walk around in a ghost form.

The preview does not inspire wonder in me: the art style is nothing special without horrific elements in it, with only the scenes where Webber is imagining how bad his cut could get, with evil anti-bodies and his torment-stricken face showcasing Luna's moments of good artwork. The colors also give the comic a dull, listless feel that integrates well with the tone the comic seems to be trying to achieve. And props to Joshua Luna for making me already despise Rico, but I can not say Sam Webber inspires any emotion out of me at this point. I am curious to see more of the supernatural elements this series has to offer, but we'll have to wait for January to read the first full issue of Whispers.
