‘Hancock 2’ Still Happening

Fear not, Hancock fans. Peter Berg, who directed the 2008 surprise box-office hit starring Will Smith, Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron, says Hancock 2 should still happen — eventually.

Ironically, Berg's update on the sequel to this original superhero film comes from a sit-down with ComicBookMovie.com:

"We've been talking about the sequel between us, Will Smith, [producers] Michael Mann and Akiva goldman and myself. We're all interested, but we literally just have trouble getting into the same room at the same time. We did have a series of meetings last year and started to hash out an idea for sequel -- and Will Smith actually had the idea -- so I think it will happen, it's just a question of timing."

Hancock raked in more than $624 million worldwide despite competing with The Dark Knight a mere two weeks later. It made more in the U.S. than some of the year's biggest films: Kung Fu Panda, WALL*E, Twilight and Quantum of Solace. Critically, however, it managed mixed reviews from both critics and audiences.

It's certainly reasonable to question whether it would have the same drawing power more than five years later (at the least), especially considering it came out at the height of the superhero blockbuster movement. Expect Sony to move on this if Will Smith scores big for the studio in this summer's Men in Black III.
