Jennifer Lawrence Gets Leading Role in “Hunger Games”

We saw it coming from a mile away, but now it’s official: Academy Award nominee Jennifer Lawrence will play Katniss Everdeen in an upcoming adaptation of Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games.

Katniss was one of the most coveted roles of the past year. Academy Award nominees Abigail Breslin and Hailee Steinfeld, Sucker Punch’s Emily Browning, Kick-Ass star Chloe Moretz, and Emma Roberts are just a few of the actresses who were in contention to play this character. According to The Wrap, Lionsgate plans on making a film trilogy with the aforementioned title and its two sequels, Catching Fire and Mockingjay. The role of Peeta still hasn’t been cast, though Alex Pettyfer of Beastly and I Am Number Four fame is being considered for the role.

Lawrence is certainly a gifted actress, but given that Katniss begins the series of books as a fourteen-year-old, wouldn’t Hailee Steinfeld be a better fit for the role?
