Female Writers Unite in Legends of Red Sonja Prestige Mini-Series

Recently Red Sonja was rebooted by Gail Simone (Birds of Prey, Suicide Squad, Batgirl). Dynamite Comics has announced they will be following up on the ongoing series with a prestige mini-series, Legends of Red Sonja, which will feature an onslaught of all female writers. Yes, female writers in comics (besides Gail Simone) do exist! Legends of Red Sonja will be a collaboration project between Gail Simone, Kelly Sue Deconnick (Captain Marvel, Ghost), Rhianna Pratchett (Heavenly Sword, Mirror's Edge), Leah Moore (Doctor Who: The Whispering Gallery, Sherlock Holmes: The Liverpool Demon), Tamora Pierce (The Song of the Lioness, Mastiff), Blair Butler (Heart, host of MSN's Nerdcore), Nancy Collins (Swamp Thing, VAMPS) and Meljean Brook (Iron Seas, Demon Angel). There will be more female writers that have yet to be announced. Legends of Red Sonja Thorne Cover A The idea to use all female writers originated from Gail Simone. She was inspired by another idea she had of having her rebooted Red Sonja series feature covers from all the top female artists. Now, while the covers will be done by male artists Frank Thorne and Jay Anacleto, the writers will all be female. I don't know why Legends of Red Sonja would be written by all women versus all men but I like seeing projects like this that showcase women who write comics since there seems to be a shortage of female writers – at least in the public eye. Hopefully this won't just be a good mini-series but will also raise awareness that women have more of a presence creatively in the comic book circuit than some people think.
