Mark Romanek to direct ‘The Shining’ Prequel

The prequel to Stephen King's The Shining, Overlook Hotel has moved a step closer with Variety reporting  that Warner Brothers has hired a director, Mark Romanek. The former The Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazzara has submitted a draft based on the prologue for The Shining which was cut from the novel before its publication. The prologue focuses on the first owner of Bob T. Watson who wanted to make the grandest resort in America in the Rookies. mark romanek The Shining has been adapted twice. The first time is in Stanley Kubrick's 1980 classic where writer Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) becomes the winter caretaker of the Outlook Hotel and ends up attempts to kill his wife and telepathic son. The other is the 1997 miniseries which King created because of his dislike for the Kubrick adaptation. Romanek has directed two movies in his career, the psychological thriller One Hour Photo and the adaptation of the sci-fi novel Never Let Me Go. Romanek is a talented filmmaker and he was linked to direct The Wolverine below he ruled himself out. But this news should be taken with a pinch of salt because Romanek was due to direct The Wolfman and Disney's Cinderella but end up walking away from both projects.
