Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – All the Madame’s Men

"Still trapped in the Framework"
This week on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. “All of Madame’s Men” struggled to put her back together again after May decided to join the resistance. It wasn’t a very exciting episode, but it definitely helped move the plot into the perfect place to start wrapping up the season. The episode started with May finally coming to her senses and helping Daisy both become Inhuman and escape from her Hydra cell. As they ran out, Daisy pushed Madame Hydra, aka Aida, out the window. At first I was really excited, thinking that she was dead and they could find their way out faster, but human rules in the Framework clearly don’t apply to androids. When she hit the pavement in the Framework, she just woke up in the real world. I’m still pretty annoyed by the logic of the Framework and that’s to say that there doesn’t seem to be any, especially when it comes to Aida. She just comes and goes as she pleases and can survive a fall out of a skyscraper. The team (aka everyone besides Fitz) worked together to decide what to do now that the Patriot is dead. Of course, Coulson jumped into the leadership role. They decided the best thing to do was to hijack the national news to show that Hydra has been creating propaganda and lying to everyone. They used the body cam from May witnessing the Patriot sacrifice himself. Daisy made the point that they should just focus on getting out of the Framework instead of trying to fix this world (which I agreed with), but Coulson claimed that they could save themselves by helping this world. I remained unconvinced. While this was happening Fitz was busy having a meltdown while continuing his evil streak. I’m still a fan of evil Fitz, and I loved the low camera angles they used this week to make him seem like this giant evil presence. It was also clever how they used the same angles with his dad to show that he is mirroring his father’s expectations of him. I really appreciated these small, yet significant, details. Every time Fitz said that he wouldn’t accept failure was so powerful and showed just how deep his evilness is rooted in this world. We also found out this episode, that as predicted, Aida is trying to become human. That is what the matter machine from earlier this season was for and they are being built in both realities. So next episode it will be a race to the clock to see if the team can get out of the Framework by the time Aida becomes a human. If the SHIELD team fails, Aida will most likely pull the plug on everyone except for Fitz.

Final Thoughts:

- Another good episode in the Framework. It wasn’t all that exciting, but this episode was really just setting up for the big battle that I’m guessing is coming next week. It will be interesting to see what they do with three more episodes. - I liked the conversation between Ward and Daisy, where she said he proved that Ward did have a good side, which is what I’ve been saying this whole time! I just can’t get over how much chemistry they have. I wish they could bring Ward back for real. - I like the little digs they have been tossing out this season on the current political climate. This week Coulson said something about Hydra presenting “alternative facts.” It was a great wink to the audience. - Again, I really liked the scenes between Mack and Hope. They have a very natural father/daughter relationship that I wish they had more time to explore. - The Jemma/Triplett storyline felt pretty pointless this week (probably why I didn’t mention it at all). - Stay tuned next week to see if the team can beat Aida once and for all, but I’m guessing it’s going to take a few more episodes.
