Microsoft Confirms Timed Exclusivity for Rise of the Tomb Raider

During their Gamescom press conference yesterday Microsoft dropped the bombshell that Rise of The Tomb Raider, the follow up to 2013's Tomb Raider, was in fact an Xbox exclusive. They were however fairly wishy washy with their wording, seemingly unwilling to speak clearly on the matter. This combined with the precedence for games like Ryse and Dead Rising 3 starting off as Xbox exclusives and coming to PC later had lead some to believe this wasn't exclusivity in perpetuity.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has now confirmed in a talk with Eurogamer that their exclusivity deal with the game's publisher Square-Enix "has a duration." Spencer was unable to say how long the duration is but made it clear that Square-Enix are free to do what they want with the game after it ends.
My bet is we'll see Rise of the Tomb Raider hit PS4, PC and possibly PS3 around a year after it first ships on Xbox. Square-Enix are after all running a business and will want the game out there on as many systems as they can get it onto.
