Netflix Announces No New Jessica Jones or Daredevil Episodes Until 2018

"The Struggle is Real for Netflix Marvel Fans"
Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos announced during the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour on Wednesday that the streaming service will stick to its plan to broadcast only two Marvel properties per year, pushing new seasons of Jessica Jones and Daredevil to 2018. After Luke Cage this fall, 2017 will be occupied by Iron Fist and the 8-episode Defenders team-up series. Daredevil was the first Marvel series broadcast on Netflix in 2015. The title character (played by UK actor Charlie Cox) is a lawyer who turns to crime fighting after a freak accident blinds him but also gave him other superhuman powers of perception. The series was both a critical and commercial success, as was the next Marvel series, Jessica Jones. cw3eutglbazbvytco3ec Jessica Jones focuses on a former hero turned private detective, played by Krysten Ritter. The character struggles with alcoholism and suffers from lingering post traumatic stress from rape and abuse suffered at the hands of the show's first season villain, Kilgrave (played by David Tennant). Both series focus on adventures for the crime fighters in the Hell's Kitchen area of Manhattan. The shows deal with more "street level" threats than the globe-trotting, extinction-level, and cosmic adventures you would find in the Marvel film series like Avengers or Guardians of the Galaxy. jessica_jones_ritter What was not announced by Sarandos was when The Punisher, another Marvel property, will air on Netflix. The Punisher (portrayed by Jon Bernthal) was a guest star on the second Daredevil series. The character, a brutal gun-wielding vigilante already popular in the comics, was well-received by fans and will also be awarded his own series. Will The Punisher be pushed back until 2019 since two series have already been announced for 2018? Will the Punisher appear in another season of Daredevil, or during the Defenders team-up series, which will feature all the other Netflix Marvel title characters? Though many have these questions and more, we may likely have to wait a while to receive any good answers.
