Netflix Renews Grace and Frankie

Well, that was quicker than expected. Netflix has announced that the streaming service has ordered a second season of its comedy series Grace and Frankie. The first live-action half hour comedy series produced by the network, the series received mixed reviews for its debut thirteen episodes.

However, despite the mixed reception, the series' high wattage of star power seemed destined to secure a second season. The show stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as two frenemies whose husbands (played by Martin Sheen and Sam Waterson) announce they have been having an affair for the past 20 years and are going to get married. While the first season had some highlights (the slow build of friendship between Tomlin and Fonda's characters), and a major breakout star in June Diane Raphael, who portrayed Fonda and Sheen's delightfully acerbic daughter Brianna, the series still needs a bit of work to achieve the heights of some of Netflix's other shows. That being said, it now has thirteen more episode to help build its characters and give some incredible actors a chance to shine.
