Nintendo’s Wii U Launching on November 18?

The Gamestop Expo is currently going on over at Texas, but PDP possibly pulled the trigger on Nintendo's Wii U launch date announcement when showing off their accessories for the new console. The peripheral company have announced they are releasing their Wii U accessories ahead of the console's November 18 launch. Both Nintendo and PDP later responded that the date is not official and will be announced at a later time. That later time is likely going to be Nintendo's Wii U press event at New York City on September 13 along with pricing and launch lineup details. Out of the launch lineup, I do expect New Super Mario Bros. U (pictured below) to be leading the pack first-party wise.

Despite PDP possibly spilling the beans, November 18 does make sense for Nintendo to launch their new console. It is the weekend before Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year, and they have been known for releasing consoles at this time of the year in the past. The original Wii's launch is an example of that launching on a Sunday back in November 2006 with a big press event announcing the final launch details two months earlier. I was not impressed with Nintendo's perfomance with showing off the Wii U at E3 earlier this summer, which you can read about it here. Hopefully they can turn things around with their big press event on September 13.
