NYCC 2016: Archie Gives Riverdale a Tie-in Comic Book

During New York Comic Con 2016, Archie announced a comic book tie-in to their new TV series Riverdale, airing on The CW in January for a midseason premiere. The comic book series will pick up after the events of the Riverdale pilot episode. The comic book series will launch with a one-shot issue written by the Chief Creative Officer of Archie Comics and showrunner/executive producer for the Riverdale TV show, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Alitha Martinez will pencil the comic book one-shot. It will be $4.99, and there is no release date yet for the comic book. riverdaleoneshotgorham-tvg Roberto Aguirre-Sacassa said in terms of the comic book tie-in, “The chance to explore the world of Riverdale in a comic book — the form that first introduced the world to Archie, the love triangle, his hometown — was something we couldn’t pass up.... Believe me, these stories matter. If you’re a fan of the show, you’ll find that the comics add another layer of conflict and drama. If you’re an Archie Comics fan, this series will serve as a great set of standalone stories in the universe of the TV series. We — myself and the show’s writers — are treating the comics with the same care and attention to detail fans will see on the screen as we weave one, large unforgettable narrative.” It's interesting to see how many worlds Archie has created over the years. They have their regular reader digest books, the new line of modern Archie related titles, the haunting Afterlife with Archie comics, and now the mystery-driven world of the Riverdale TV show. Are you excited for it? Do you want to pick up the Riverdale one-shot? Do you think Archie needs these alternate universes? Let us know in the comments.
