The Powerpuff Girls Reboot Premiere Date Announced

"Sugar, spice, and everything nice is just around the corner. "
Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup will return next month. The Powerpuff Girls will premiere on Monday, April 4, on Cartoon Network, with back-to-back episodes starting at 6 PM Eastern. The revival of the 1998 series will then air new episodes every weekday until April 15 in that timeslot, before changing to its regular air time of Thursdays at 6 PM Eastern starting on April 21. Prior to its TV debut, The Powerpuff Girls will be shown at the SXSW festival on Monday in Austin, TX, which will also feature a pre-party and parade with giant balloon versions of the three heroes. After the festival, the show will begin having premieres around the world. Cartoon Network released a new video to promote the series yesterday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUwOs2IWx1w Via Deadline, a summary of the show's plot: “Superhero sisters Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup are known to their fellow citizens of Townsville as the Powerpuff Girls. Together, they protect their beautiful, bustling metropolis from sinister evildoers, intent on taking over. Juggling school, homework and a regular parade of villains is no easy task, but the Powerpuff Girls are more than up to the challenge. Armed with supercool superpowers and some topnotch teamwork, the Powerpuff Girls, with occasional assistance from Professor Utonium and the Mayor of Townsville, show their hometown and the world that it is possible to save the world before bedtime.” Many of the original series’ voice actors, like Tom Kenny (the Narrator/Mayor) and Roger L. Jackson (Mojo Jojo), are returning for the reboot, but the voice actors for the girls are completely new. Amanda Leighton (Blossom), Kristen Li (Bubbles), and Natalie Palamides (Buttercup) are taking over for Cathy Cavadini, Tara Strong, and Elizabeth Daily, respectively. And while I understand the desire to make the new series its own thing, I feel like it would have made more sense to do this if the characters had been redesigned or the animation style changed in a major way (as many news outlets commented last year). Totally Cartoon Network's right to do whatever they want with the series, but not even contacting Cavadini, Strong, or Daily prior to recasting seems unnecessary. In any case, I hope the new talent is able to give us a different spin on the characters. Original series creator Craig McCracken will also not be a part of the new series, but he has previously expressed his approval of the reboot (as well as his opinion on the recasting).
