Reports Indicate Steve Carell May Appear in The Office Finale

After months of denials, it appears that Steve Carell, and his character Michael Scott, will in fact be turning up on The Office’s series finale on May 16. Whether or not Carell, who starred in the comedy for seven seasons before leaving to focus on his film career, would appear in the series’ swan song has been a topic of much discussion, with the show’s showrunner Greg Daniels initially denying Carell would appear, but stopping short of issuing a denial in his most recent conversation with reporters.

Details surrounding Carell’s reported appearance in the finale, first reported by TVLine, are extremely scarce. Speculation is that it will simply be a cameo, which would be in line with previous statements by Daniels that both he and Carell felt Scott’s original exit from the show was a fitting farewell for the character. There is also no word on whether or not Scott’s fiancée Holly, played by Amy Ryan, will also appear in the show. However, it has been announced that Carell will not be appearing in the hour-long retrospective airing before the show’s finale.

If Carell makes a surprise cameo in the finale, it will be his second such surprise appearance in recent weeks, as Carell shocked fans who attended the recent Office finale party in Scranton, PA, by appearing at a cast Q&A.
