Robin Wright joins Fincher’s “Dragon Tattoo”

David Fincher’s American remake of the Swedish novel-turned-film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo just picked up a female star in the form of Robin Wright. However, the actress won’t be playing the heroine Lisbeth Salander. According to Deadline, she will portray Millenium magazine publisher Erika Berger, who is also the sometimes lover of Mikael Blomkvist, Daniel Craig’s character.

Wright most recently starred in Rebecca Miller’s The Private Lives of Pippa Lee with Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder, and Alan Arkin; she will star in Robert Redford’s upcoming historical drama The Conspirator alongside Kevin Kline, James McAvoy, and Evan Rachel Wood among others. She joins a cast being quickly assembled that includes the aforementioned Craig and Stellan Skarsgard (Mamma Mia!, Angels & Demons).

Wright is an extremely dependable actress who generally doesn’t receive the credit that she deserves. Having a major role in a project of this magnitude should do wonders for her, similar to what the Iron Man franchise more or less did for Gwyneth Paltrow.

However, let’s be honest here: the real “Dragon Tattoo” story will be the casting of Lisbeth Salander.
